Lennon Racewear Review, Guy Mayger
Guy Mayger, Lennon Racewear Solo Sailor:
Now heading into winter series territory, I thought I’d give a little review of my years sailing and some thoughts on the gear I’ve been wearing.
First off, from a competitive point of view, I’ve had my best Solo results ever! From my 4th place in Medemblik at the Spring Cup, 5th place at the highly competitive Nationals at Hayling and then a solid 4th at the End of Season event I’ve been on the pace this year for sure.
As well as getting my boat tune really dialled I’ve also looked to improve other areas of my game and this has really paid off. As well as working hard on my own fitness (bootcamps, cycling and lots of sailing) I’ve also put more thought into my racing in an effort to be a little smarter!
It’s been great to have the excellent Lennon Racewear clothing in my kit bag to make sure I’m more than comfortable when out on the water. My go-to suit has been the Thermalite DRYSYSTEM Long John which has seen me through the very cold spring, autumn and now into the winter. A great suit that keeps you warm and dry. I’ve then matched that with either the Thermalite 1.5mm or Thermalite 2.5mm tops depending on how fresh/cold it is. Only twice in 2018 have I worn the 2.5mm top with a thermal layer underneath (very windy, 5°C), the top alone being more than enough. Often, I note others emptying their kit bags to put on every item of clothing they had whilst I am still using my 1.5mm top. At the recent End of Season, I wore my 2.5mm top as it was the first really cold weekend’s racing we’d had after the epic summer. Again, I noted a number of competitors having to retire as they were cold whilst I was toasty warm.
Mentioning the summer, my Superlite 1mm Top has been used throughout the warmer months. On the lighter days when I’ve gone with just a rash vest I’ve packed the Superlite in a drybag and popped it on if a sea breeze has filled in. Even on the greyer days the Superlite has been great offering enough warmth whilst being super flexible when matched with a pair of hikers.
Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with my season and I’m now starting to plan for 2019! Even better, it’s great to see a number of my friends and competitors wearing Lennon Racewear gear and really appreciating the quality of this kit.
