Solo winter fun with Guy Mayger

last Sunday was the time to get back into training for the 2018 season.

Despite the best efforts of the “Beast from the East” (hate that tabloid title!) it was time to start getting back up to speed.

Luckily, a bit of physical training of the Winter has helped to keep me reasonably in shape, but I have really been missing my early morning bike rides since the roads have turned wet and slippery.

With the remnants of the Siberian blast still in the air 3 hours of two-boat training took place on the Solent in 10 to 17 knots of cool Easterly breeze.

Wearing the Thermalite DRYSYSTEM Long John and Thermalite 2.5mm DRYSYSTEM Top with a thermal base underneath I was toasty warm throughout the session which started with cracking some ice off of the cover before reaching about 8°C by the end.

The sea temperature is still only about 4 to 5°C currently, so definitely worth adding the extra layers.

Even standing chest deep when helping the safety boat in wasn’t a problem, although the first cuppa in the club afterwards was most welcome

Looking forward to the season we have the Spring Champs in Medemblik, Holland in April which can often be on the cool side, before heading to (possibly) Garda and Hayling for the Nationals.

Any Solo sailors (or others) reading this and interested in having a look at the Lennon gear please feel free to collar me at any of the events.
